South Bohemia - Nová Pec
Originally woodwork village from the middle of the 17th century is one of the most popular and sought-after touristic area of Sumava Mountains. Excellent conditions for summer and winter holiday.
Sumava Mountains reach 120 km in lenght and 50 km in width and borders on 3 countries - the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. This region is so-called "Green Roof of Europe". In its center there is the National Park of Sumava and the National Park of Bavarian Forest. Protected Landscape Area of Sumava was founded in 1963 and reaches almost 1000 sqkm.
Lipno Dam
Lipno Dam was built in 1952-1959 as the highest point of the Vltava cascade. It is 48 km long, its widest spot is almost 10 km, its total area reaches ca 4870 hectars. The dam is however reatively shallow, the average depth is 6,5 m, the deepest point is 21,5 m. The sight-seeing of the hydropower plant right under the dam is very interesting. There is 210 m long tunnel descending into a huge underground space with 2 Francis turbines The water flows out from here through a 3,6 km long, 9 m wide and 8 m high tunnel into a small distribution reservoir above Vyssi Brod. The northern part of this reservoir serves as a recreational area.
Lipno Area
There is a system of hiking paths and bikesways on both lake shores being connected with 3 ferries. The bikeways join the austrian paths at 6 border crossings.
In summer you can use historical steam engine from Cerna v Posumavi to Nove Udoli.

Nova Pec (Schwarzenberg floating channel, Stone Sea, Plesne Lake, mountain Plechy etc.), Vitkuv Kamen (ruin), Vyssi Brod (monastery), castle Rozmberk, Horni Plana (A. Stifter Museum, horseriding), Glassworks in Milna, Lipno nad Vltavou (aquapark, ski area) and other towns with many touristic attractions.
